Reflection – Capturing What Works and Throwing Away what Does Not

Ross School of Business Post-doctoral Fellow Dr. Julia Lee shares the “reflected best self exercise,” developed by University of Michigan scholars. In this tool, participants create an assessment of their “best self” and ask others for feedback that highlights their positive contributions. Participants then create a “best self-portrait” based on the stories they receive. Lee goes on to share the positive impact the “reflective best self exercise” had on individual and team performance. The exercise increases self-worth and puts individuals in a psychological state that allows them to contribute better in teams. This exercise can be applied in the workplace—she urges employers to take ownership for creating environments where employees bring their best selves to work. This video was recorded at the re:Work 2016 event.
